August Rush

I don't give movie reviews very often, but when a movie strikes me...I will tell you about it. This evening, we saw the movie August Rush and it was awesome. If I had a system, I would give it 2 thumbs up or 5 stars (out of 5). :)

Before I really look up what other have to say about it, let me describe it to you in my own words without giving away the ending.

This is a movie that includes, an orphaned child, a love story, a great musical score, and a incredible build up of a story. The entire time I was watching this movie, I kept thinking to myself, I wonder if it was based off a true story. When you watch this boy play music on his guitar, you become mesmerized in the individualistic way he presents the music. He is a musical genius.

Robin Williams also stars in this movie. I love Robin Williams and the roles he plays in his different movies. I loved him as the genie in Aladdin, the doctor in Patch Adams, the priest in License to Wed, Mrs. Doubtfire in Mrs. Doubtfire, and even Teddy Roosevelt in Night at the Museum. This was the first movie I have seen that I didn't enjoy his character as much as the others. He did a great job at making me not like him. (Wow...after looking his www.imdb.com profile, you have to wonder what his resume looks likes!!)

As the movie progresses along, your feelings for these characters are shared with them as they continue on the journey to the end of the movie. I won't go into anything else for fear of giving away the movie's ending and what not, but just rent it and watch it.

Here is the synopsis from DeathtoGlitter on Internet Movie Data Base

"The story of a charismatic young Irish guitarist and a sheltered young cellist who have a chance encounter one magical night above New York's Washington Square, but are soon torn apart, leaving in their wake an infant, August Rush, orphaned by circumstance. Now performing on the streets of New York and cared for by a mysterious stranger, August uses his remarkable musical talent to seek the parents from whom he was separated at birth."

Here is the movie trailer

My favorite quote from the movie...

"Remember Mozart who is like a musical prod?
Prodigy?
Exactly! Well I have one of those...and he's living under my bed."

I know I will be buying this sounds track!!

Yes, that movie looks moving for sure. Thanks for the review... Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is beautiful.

If you enjoy Robin Williams you definitely need to see the following:

The Fisher King
The World According to Garp
Dead Poets Society
Popeye (is a classic, heehee)
Awakenings
Hook (though I bet you have)
Jumanji (also bet you have)
What Dreams May Come
One Hour Photo

I saw Dead Poets Society back in English Class in I think 10th grade. Captain N says that What Dreams May Come is one of his favorites...so I'm kinda surprised I haven't seen that one!! I'm going to netflix to check out the rest! Oh yeah...I've seen Hook too which I really enjoyed!
